Hi! I’m Sophie Lane – mom of two, collector of vintage cookbooks, and the slightly flour-dusted blogger behind GenRecipes.com. My husband says I have a “sixth sense” for knowing when something needs a pinch more salt, and my kids swear I can smell when cookies are perfectly done before the timer even rings.
My love affair with food started in my grandmother’s Massachusetts kitchen at age six, when I could barely reach the counter without my trusty step stool. Twenty-something years and thousands of recipes later, I still get the same thrill from a perfectly risen loaf or that moment when someone takes their first bite and closes their eyes in delight.

Lessons from Grandma’s Kitchen
My earliest memories take place in my grandmother Eloise’s kitchen in rural Massachusetts. Standing on a well-worn step stool, I’d watch her hands work magic with simple ingredients. Flour dusting her apron, she’d guide my small fingers through kneading dough or whisking eggs.
“Cooking isn’t just about feeding the body, Sophie,” she’d say, her voice as warm as the bread rising in the corner. “It’s about nourishing the soul.”
Those Sunday afternoons shaped not just my cooking skills but my understanding of how food connects us to our roots and to each other. We never used precise measurements—just a pinch of this, a handful of that, and always a generous portion of love.
My Family Table Today
My kitchen now buzzes with the energy of four souls—my husband Michael (my most honest taste-tester), my twelve-year-old son Ethan (already showing talent for baking), and nine-year-old daughter Lily (whose curiosity reminds me of myself at her age).
Our dinner table has become the heart of our home, where daily stories blend with the stories our food tells. Watching my children’s hands perform the same motions my grandmother taught me creates a beautiful bridge between generations.
How GenRecipes Was Born
GenRecipes began during the pandemic when I started sharing videos of my grandmother’s recipes with my own modern twists. The response was overwhelming—people weren’t just seeking dinner ideas but the stories and memories behind favorite dishes.
This blog has become a place where traditional techniques meet contemporary ingredients, where family recipes are celebrated not just as instructions but as cultural touchstones. From Grandma’s impossibly fluffy biscuits (the secret is freezing the butter) to my signature roasted garlic risotto, each recipe carries a piece of my story.
My Cooking Philosophy
I believe cooking is love made visible. Whether it’s a quick family dinner or a special celebration meal, I approach each dish with intention and gratitude.
I respect ingredients and their origins. I believe in the power of shared meals to strengthen bonds. And I’m convinced that everyone—yes, everyone—can learn to cook with confidence and joy.
My grandmother always said a recipe is just a suggestion, a starting point for your creativity. That philosophy guides everything I share here. The greatest compliment is hearing that someone has adapted one of my recipes to make it their own.
